Jharkhand Students March to Assembly Over JPSC-JSSC Recruitment Controversy

Ranchi, August 10, 2026: The protest by students and government job aspirants in Jharkhand intensified on Monday as thousands marched towards the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations. The agitation has continued for more than two weeks.

The Ranchi administration imposed restrictions around the Assembly area and set up extensive barricading, including barbed wire, within a radius of about 750 metres. Additional police forces were deployed to maintain law and order.

The protesters are demanding a fair investigation into the alleged examination irregularities and a transparent recruitment process. Students have been raising concerns over the conduct of the recruitment examinations for several days. Earlier talks between government representatives and student leaders failed to produce a breakthrough, following which the Assembly march was announced.

Tension escalated during the march when police attempted to stop the protesters. Water cannons were used, and reports of pushing, scuffles and lathi-charge emerged from parts of the protest route.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren had said a day earlier that the government was ready for dialogue and would consider the students’ demands with transparency and justice. The government maintains that several demands of the protesters have been addressed, while student groups say their core concerns remain unresolved.

The controversy has also reached the Jharkhand Assembly, where opposition parties have demanded an impartial probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities.

Earlier, students had also taken out a Tiranga March in Ranchi as part of their protest. The continuing demonstrations have triggered a wider debate across the state over transparency in recruitment examinations and the confidence of young aspirants in the system.
