    Piran Kaliyar: Former Haj Committee Chairman and newly appointed Uttarakhand Congress State General Secretary Rao Sher Mohammad visited Piran Kaliyar on Wednesday following his appointment to the important organisational position.

    During his visit, Rao Sher Mohammad offered a chadar and flowers at the revered Dargah Sabir Pak and prayed for peace, harmony, prosperity and progress in the country and Uttarakhand. Sahibzada Shah Yawar Miyan led special prayers for peace, prosperity and the development of the region.

    Following his visit to the dargah, Rao Sher Mohammad received a warm welcome from Congress workers and supporters, who greeted him with flower garlands and congratulated him on being appointed State General Secretary.

    Speaking on the occasion, Rao Sher Mohammad said that the responsibility of State General Secretary was not merely a matter of honour for him but a major responsibility towards the party organisation and the people.

    He said that the Congress leadership had placed its trust in him and he would make every possible effort to live up to that confidence.

    Rao Sher Mohammad said that strengthening the Congress organisation up to the booth level would remain one of his key priorities.

    He said that the party would work at the grassroots level by taking its workers along and would raise issues concerning ordinary citizens with greater strength.

    Describing party workers as the backbone of the organisation, he said that the hard work, struggle and dedication of workers are essential for strengthening any political organisation.

    He added that in the coming period, he would work closely with party workers to make the organisation more active at the grassroots level and remain connected with the people.

    Rao Sher Mohammad said that issues concerning the common people would be given priority and every possible effort would be made to seek solutions to their problems.

    He said that the Congress would continue to highlight issues affecting the public and, whenever necessary, hold the government accountable on matters of public interest.

    The newly appointed Congress State General Secretary also criticised the BJP government over issues concerning unemployment, alleged paper leaks and transparency in recruitment examinations.

    He said that the youth of Uttarakhand are concerned about paper leak incidents and questions being raised over transparency in recruitment examinations.

    According to Rao Sher Mohammad, young people need employment opportunities and a transparent recruitment system, and the government should take the matter seriously.

    Rao Sher Mohammad also raised concerns over inflation, saying that rising prices are directly affecting the daily lives of ordinary people.

    He said that fuel prices have an impact on transportation as well as the prices of essential commodities, ultimately increasing the financial burden on common households.

    He said that the Congress would continue to raise issues such as unemployment, paper leaks, inflation and other matters of public interest and would work to make the government accountable.

    He also appealed to Congress workers to remain united and take the party’s policies and ideology to the people.

    Rao Sher Mohammad emphasised that organisational strength does not depend only on office-bearers but on the active participation of every party worker.

    He called upon Congress workers to work collectively to strengthen the party organisation at the booth level and build a stronger grassroots presence.

    Haridwar: Following the successful, peaceful and well-managed conclusion of Kanwar Mela 2026 in Haridwar, the police and district administration honoured officers, employees and various stakeholders who played an important role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the massive religious event.

    Among those recognised was District Information Officer Ratilal Shah, who was honoured for his outstanding contribution to media coverage, timely dissemination of important information and effective coordination between the police-administration and media fraternity during the Kanwar Mela.

                   The Uttarakhand Congress has finally announced its new Pradesh Congress Committee after a wait of nearly six years.
    Coming in an election year, the new organizational structure was expected to reflect the party’s commitment to inclusive and meaningful representation of its core supporters.
    But the list has raised a serious political question:
                 Does the Congress see Muslims as political partners—or merely as a vote bank during elections?
    The newly announced organization has 169 office-bearers in total. According to the list, only nine are Muslim, accounting for just 5.39% of the total representation.
    That figure itself raises an uncomfortable question for the Congress leadership:
    If Muslim voters constitute an important part of the party’s electoral support base in Uttarakhand, why is their representation in the party organization so limited?
    A Question From the 2017 and 2022 Elections
    The political significance of Muslim voters in Uttarakhand cannot simply be ignored.
    In the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections, Congress candidates performed strongly in several constituencies where Muslim voters have a significant electoral influence. The argument can therefore be made that Muslim support has played an important role in helping the Congress maintain its political presence in the state.
    But if this support is politically important during elections, the question is:
    Where is the corresponding representation when it comes to power and organizational decision-making?
    Congress ruled Uttarakhand for around a decade. Yet, according to the political record cited in this debate, not a single Muslim MLA was included in the state Cabinet during that period.
    And now, with the announcement of the new organizational team, the issue of representation has once again come into focus.
    The message perceived by many is blunt:
    Muslim votes are welcome—but meaningful political representation remains limited.
    What Does Secularism Really Mean?
    The Congress has repeatedly projected itself as a major political defender of secularism and constitutional values.
    But secularism cannot merely be a slogan delivered from political platforms.
    It must also be reflected in the structure of political parties themselves.
    If a political party speaks about equality, inclusion and constitutional representation, then those principles should be visible not only in speeches, but also in organizational appointments, political leadership and decision-making positions.
    This raises a simple question:
    If Muslims are an important part of the party’s electoral support base, why does their presence remain so limited in the organization?
    The Politics of a “Permanent Vote Bank”
    Perhaps the most serious political concern is the perception that Congress continues to operate under an old assumption—that Muslim voters have nowhere else to go.
    The assumption appears to be:
    Whether Muslims receive respect or face neglect, whether they receive political opportunities or not, they will ultimately vote for Congress because they want to defeat the BJP.
    If such thinking exists within the party, it could prove to be one of Congress’s biggest political mistakes.
    For decades, so-called secular political parties have appealed to Muslim voters in the name of defeating the BJP.
    But a legitimate question remains:
    What has the Muslim community received in return?
    Equal representation?
    Leadership opportunities?
    A meaningful role in decision-making?
    Or merely election-time appeals and political promises?
    If the relationship between a political party and a community is reduced to taking votes while limiting representation, that cannot reasonably be described as genuine political partnership.
    It begins to look more like political dependence and electoral calculation.
    Representation Is Not a Favour
    Congress must understand that political respect also has a political value.
    A community that repeatedly turns up at polling stations and supports a political party has every democratic right to ask:
    Where is our representation in the organization?
    Representation is not a favour.
    It is not charity.
    And it should not be treated as a reward given only when politically convenient.
    If Congress wants to present itself as an inclusive and secular political force, then its organizational structure must reflect that claim.
    The Question Congress Cannot Avoid
    The issue is not about demanding special treatment for one community.
    The question is much simpler:
    Has a community that is considered an important part of Congress’s electoral support base received meaningful representation within the party organization?
    If the answer is no, then questioning this imbalance is not anti-Congress politics.
    It is a legitimate democratic question.
    The Congress leadership must now decide whether it wants the Muslim community to be treated as a political partner or merely as an electoral necessity.
    Because in a democracy, asking for votes becomes morally meaningful only when a party is also prepared to offer respect, representation and participation.
    And the Question for Muslim Voters
    The Muslim community must also ask itself a difficult question:
    Should unconditional electoral support for any political party continue indefinitely—or should every political party be held accountable for representation, respect and political participation?
    A vote is not merely a tool to defeat one political party and elect another.
    A vote is also a democratic instrument to demand dignity, representation and accountability.
    And perhaps the time has come for every political party in Uttarakhand to answer one fundamental question:
    “Do you want our votes—or do you also want us as equal partners in political leadership?”

    Ranchi, August 10, 2026: The protest by students and government job aspirants in Jharkhand intensified on Monday as thousands marched towards the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations. The agitation has continued for more than two weeks.

    The Ranchi administration imposed restrictions around the Assembly area and set up extensive barricading, including barbed wire, within a radius of about 750 metres. Additional police forces were deployed to maintain law and order.

    The protesters are demanding a fair investigation into the alleged examination irregularities and a transparent recruitment process. Students have been raising concerns over the conduct of the recruitment examinations for several days. Earlier talks between government representatives and student leaders failed to produce a breakthrough, following which the Assembly march was announced.

    Tension escalated during the march when police attempted to stop the protesters. Water cannons were used, and reports of pushing, scuffles and lathi-charge emerged from parts of the protest route.

    Chief Minister Hemant Soren had said a day earlier that the government was ready for dialogue and would consider the students’ demands with transparency and justice. The government maintains that several demands of the protesters have been addressed, while student groups say their core concerns remain unresolved.

    The controversy has also reached the Jharkhand Assembly, where opposition parties have demanded an impartial probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities.

    Earlier, students had also taken out a Tiranga March in Ranchi as part of their protest. The continuing demonstrations have triggered a wider debate across the state over transparency in recruitment examinations and the confidence of young aspirants in the system.

    Dehradun: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Dehradun district unit, has decided to launch a large-scale awareness campaign to assist eligible voters during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The initiative aims to ensure that no eligible voter loses their voting rights due to lack of information or procedural difficulties.

    The decision was taken during a district-level meeting of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind held on Wednesday at Saeedia Mosque, Noor Enclave, Azad Colony, under the chairmanship of District President Maulana Abdul Mannan Qasmi.

    Speaking after the meeting, the organisation’s state spokesperson Mohammad Shah Nazar said that voters who have received notices from the Election Department under the SIR campaign should respond within the stipulated time. He said the organisation’s priority is to ensure that eligible citizens are not deprived of their right to vote because of a lack of awareness or difficulty in completing the required formalities.

    He announced that awareness messages would be delivered through mosques during Friday prayers, urging those who have received notices to submit the required documents to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) within the prescribed deadline. Volunteers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will also provide assistance to individuals facing difficulties in understanding the process or submitting documents.

    The meeting also resolved to organise booth-level awareness camps, where voters will be guided through the notice-response process in a simple and accessible manner. Volunteers will coordinate with BLOs, help voters reach their designated booths, and assist them in completing the necessary forms.

    District President Maulana Abdul Mannan Qasmi said safeguarding the names of eligible citizens in the electoral roll is essential for strengthening democracy. He appealed to all recipients of Election Department notices to submit the required documents on time so that their names remain on the final electoral roll. He added that protecting the voting rights of eligible citizens is a shared responsibility of both the Election Department and society.

    Besides discussing the SIR campaign, the meeting also focused on several issues related to social reform. It was decided that Seerat-un-Nabi (ﷺ) programmes would be organised during the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal. The organisation also resolved to promote social harmony, moral values and awareness against un-Islamic practices through mosque-based outreach.

    Religious scholars were further urged to address social issues such as drug abuse, excessive mobile phone addiction, dowry, and extravagant wedding expenses in their Friday sermons to encourage positive social change.

    The meeting was attended by several religious scholars, office-bearers and community members, including Mufti Wasil Qasmi, Mufti Ayaz Ahmad, Maulana Raghib Mazahiri, Mufti Raghib Qasmi, Master Abdul Sattar, Mufti Huzaifa Qasmi, Mufti Rashid Miftahi, Mufti Naseem Ahmad, Maulana Mohammad Mehtab, Qari Faik Ahmad, Maulana Gulsher Qasmi, and many others.

    The district administration has intensified preparations for the 758th Annual Urs and Fair of the world-renowned Dargah of Hazrat Sabir Pak in Piran Kaliyar. A joint meeting of administrative and police officials was held on Wednesday at the Kaliyar Police Station to ensure the event is conducted peacefully, safely, and in an organized manner.

    The meeting was jointly chaired by Roorkee Joint Magistrate Deepak Ramchandra Seth and Rural SP Shekhar Chand Suyal.

    Officials reviewed detailed arrangements in view of the large number of pilgrims expected from across the country. Discussions focused on security, traffic management, parking facilities, sanitation, drinking water, lighting, temporary toilets, barricading, healthcare services, fire safety, crowd control, and disaster management.

    Call for Strict Action Against Miscreants

    Local residents and community representatives urged the administration to take strict action against hooligans and anti-social elements to maintain law and order during the Urs. They also requested timely repair of damaged roads around the shrine, completion of the allotment process for prasad stalls, and better arrangements during the traditional Mehndi Dori ceremony.

    Departments Assigned Specific Responsibilities

    Joint Magistrate Deepak Ramchandra Seth directed all concerned departments to complete preparations well before the commencement of the Urs. He instructed officials to work in close coordination and ensure that every department fulfills its responsibilities efficiently.

    He emphasized that special attention would be given to parking arrangements, traffic diversions, drinking water, sanitation, lighting, healthcare, and security so that pilgrims do not face any inconvenience.

    German Hangars Reserved Only for Pilgrims

    The administration clarified that the German hangars to be installed during the Urs will be used exclusively for the convenience of pilgrims. No other events or programs will be permitted inside these structures.

    Officials also stressed the need to strengthen security measures, ensure smooth traffic movement, and complete all emergency preparedness plans well in advance.

    The meeting was attended by Bhagwanpur Circle Officer Sumit Pandey, Tehsildar and Dargah Manager Vikas Awasthi, Kaliyar SHO Kamal Mohan Bhandari, SSI Rajesh Bisht, Nagar Panchayat EO Kuldeep Singh Chauhan, along with officials from various departments and prominent local residents.

    Dr. Kshemendra Gupta, a distinguished physician, educationist, and social worker, passed away on Saturday, August 1, at around 5:00 PM. His demise has been widely mourned across the medical, academic, and social service communities.

    Dr. Gupta was the father of Prof. Dr. Himanshu Airan, Full-Time Member of the Dental Assessment & Rating Board of the National Dental Commission, Government of India, and former Vice-Chancellor of Subharti University, Dehradun.

    A native of Haldaur in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Gupta dedicated decades of his life to serving people as a respected medical practitioner in Haldaur and Meerut. He was also the father of renowned physician Dr. Preeti Vishnoi and father-in-law of Dr. Anurag Vishnoi, who runs Vishnoi Clinic.

    Throughout his career, Dr. Gupta was known not only for his medical expertise but also for his deep commitment to humanitarian causes. His contributions to cataract treatment, polio eradication campaigns, and public health awareness positively impacted thousands of people. His legacy of service continues through his family. Dr. Preeti Vishnoi has facilitated more than 10,000 free cataract surgeries through eye-care camps, while Prof. Dr. Himanshu Airan has actively promoted eye donation awareness, helping hundreds of people pledge to donate their eyes.

    Dr. Gupta was an alumnus of Rishikul Ayurvedic College, Haridwar, and remained a strong advocate of education and rural development. As Chairman and Life Member of the management committees of C.D. Inter College, Haldaur, and Chandramani Bal Vikas Kendra, Haldaur, he worked tirelessly to improve educational opportunities and support underprivileged communities.

    His funeral was held on Sunday at Poornanand Cremation Ground, Muni Ki Reti, Rishikesh, following traditional Hindu rites.

    Even in his final moments, Dr. Gupta chose to donate his eyes, enabling two individuals to receive the gift of sight. His decision stands as an inspiring reminder that organ and tissue donation can continue to transform lives even after death.

    Doctors, educationists, social organizations, and prominent citizens paid heartfelt tributes to Dr. Kshemendra Gupta, remembering him as a compassionate physician and dedicated humanitarian. They also expressed their deepest condolences to Prof. Dr. Himanshu Airan and the bereaved family, praying for strength and peace during this difficult time.

    In a historic achievement for Uttarakhand, all 1,526 eligible Haj applicants from the state have been selected for Haj 2027. The selection was finalized through the Random Digital Selection (Qurrah) conducted by the Haj Committee of India on 30 July 2026.

    Chairman of the Uttarakhand State Haj Committee, Khateeb Ahmad, congratulated all the selected pilgrims and described the 100% selection as a proud moment for the state. He wished the pilgrims a safe, peaceful, and spiritually rewarding journey.

    The Haj Committee has informed that the first installment of ₹1,52,300 per pilgrim must be deposited by 10 August 2026 through SBI, Union Bank, or via the Haj Committee of India website and the Suvidha App.

    Selected pilgrims are also required to submit all necessary documents, including a medical fitness certificate, passport copy, two passport-sized photographs, cancelled cheque, and the required declaration, at the Haj House, Piran Kaliyar, on or before 17 August 2026.

    CJP Alleges Detention of Student Protesters in Several States, Urges Centre to Honour Its Assurance

    New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has alleged that students and other protesters are being targeted, detained, and arrested in several states, including Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar. Expressing serious concern over these reports, the party has urged the Central Government to intervene immediately.

    In a statement posted on social media platform X, CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das said the party had suspended its nationwide agitation only after receiving assurances from the Government of India that no punitive action would be taken against any protester, either now or in the future, regardless of whether the state was governed by the BJP or an NDA alliance.

    The party said the reports emerging from different states are deeply worrying and called on the government to honour its commitment. According to CJP, its legal team has been actively working since the first day of the movement, coordinating with lawyers across the concerned states to secure the release of those detained or arrested and to provide them with all necessary legal assistance.

    CJP appealed to the Central Government, particularly BJP President J.P. Nadda and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, to ensure that the assurances given to the protesters are implemented. The party demanded the immediate release of all detained individuals and insisted that no coercive or retaliatory action should be taken against protesters anywhere in the country.

    The party also called for the withdrawal of all FIRs registered against protesters. In its statement, CJP reminded the government that it had promised to provide a written guarantee on the matter by July 28, 2026.

    CJP stated that its decision to suspend the nationwide agitation was taken entirely in good faith and based on the government’s assurances. It warned that any failure to honour those commitments would not only amount to a breach of trust with the party but would also undermine the confidence of millions of young people who chose dialogue over continued protests.

    The party concluded by saying that any betrayal of the youth would be unacceptable and emphasized that the credibility of any government is measured not merely by the promises it makes, but by its willingness to fulfil them.

    A 19-year-old NEET-UG aspirant from Jalalpur village in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district allegedly died by suicide after reportedly becoming distressed over her performance in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, according to police. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the intense pressure faced by students preparing for competitive examinations.

    Police identified the student as Ankita Suresh Sangale. Officials said she had appeared in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination and scored 166 marks, which was 11 marks below the qualifying cut-off of 177 for her category. Police said they recovered a purported handwritten suicide note in which she expressed disappointment over her examination result and described herself as “an average student.” An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

    According to media reports, Ankita had been preparing for admission to a medical college and aspired to become a doctor. Her death has renewed concerns about the emotional and psychological burden associated with high-stakes entrance examinations.

    The incident comes amid a nationwide debate over examination reforms following controversies surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination and the subsequent re-examination. Student organisations and education experts have called for greater transparency in the examination system, while mental health advocates have urged stronger counselling services and support mechanisms for students facing academic stress.

    Police have not officially attributed the death to any single cause, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are examining all available evidence, including the note recovered from the scene.

    The tragedy has once again sparked discussions about the need for a more transparent examination process, improved mental health support for students, and timely intervention to help young people cope with academic pressure.
