Roorkee/Kaliar. In the state executive meeting of Uttarakhand Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, it has been decided that Jamiat will run a plantation campaign across the state. Apart from this, discussion was also held on census and strengthening mutual brotherhood, expanding the Jamiat.

The meeting was chaired by Jamiat’s state president Maulana Hussain Ahmed Qasmi, while a large number of Ulemas, social workers, advocates and public representatives from across the state were present in it.

In the meeting, Maulana Hussain Ahmed Qasmi expressed special concern about the census and urged Muslims that whenever the census is conducted, they must mention ‘Islam’ in the religion column and their actual caste in the caste column.

He also directed that the achievements of Jamiat should be published and made available to the general public, so that the service and hard work of the organization is recognized. Mohammad Shah Nazar informed that Jamiat is fighting a battle in the High Court and Supreme Court for the protection of madrasas. Maulana Ilyas Ahmed, Maulana Anwar Majahiri, Maulana Abdul Mannan Qasmi, former MLA Haji Tasleem Ahmed, Mufti Mohammad Tajim, Mohammad Shah Nazar, Haji Shamim Sabri, Maulana Abdul Wahid, Maulana Abdul Wajid, Maulana Furqan, Maulana Abbas Qasmi, Maulana Rehan Ghani, Qari Abid, Master Abdul Sattar, Mufti Sher Alam, Mufti Ayaz Ahmed, Qari Farhan Malik etc were present in the meeting.

Concern over UCC: Conspiracy to end the status of Nikah*

In the meeting, there was a special discussion on UCC (Uniform Civil Code). Jamiat’s state vice-president Advocate Mohammad Yusuf and Mufti Taufiq Ahmed explained in detail how the Islamic Shariat and the religious status of Nikah are being hurt through UCC.

He said, “The government is trying to make marriage registration compulsory in a hurry, while the hearing on this is scheduled in the High Court on July 14.” The Muslim community was appealed to be cautious in matters like marriage registration and wait for the instructions coming from the organization. Jamiat’s state general secretary Maulana Sharafat Ali Qasmi said that there is no need to fear UCC. He said that the country’s constitution guarantees justice to every citizen and if the government tries to forcefully impose the law, then we should knock the door of the court.

 In the meeting, Nainital District President Maulana Muqeem Ahmed Qasmi talked about the Haldwani riots and the Muslim youth trapped in it. He told that after the riots, cases were registered against 106 people under the stringent anti-terrorism law UAPA, out of which 77 people have been released, but 22 people are still in jail. He told that the next important hearing in this case will be held on June 30, for which Jamiat is making efforts at the legal level.

The proposal was also passed in the meeting that programs of Qaumi Ekjahati will be organized across the state, so that brotherhood between different religions and communities can be strengthened. Along with this, a state-wide tree plantation campaign will also be run by Jamiat. At the same time, regarding organizational expansion, it was decided that the responsibility of Garhwal Mandal has been given to Dehradun and Haridwar units. The responsibility of Kumaon region has been handed over to the Nainital unit.
